The system I use to get Florida home-service and auto businesses found online and actually booked. No big budget, no agency on retainer, no posting random stuff that goes nowhere.
If you run a real business and you're tired of watching competitors with worse work pull all the attention online, this is for you. It takes five minutes to read, and you can start using it today.
1. The first 3 seconds decide everything
Nobody owes you their attention. On Instagram and TikTok, people scroll past your video in about a second unless you give them a reason to stop. So the opening is the whole job.
Every video needs three things hitting at once in the first second:
- Something moving on screen (the work, a result, a before)
- You saying something that makes them want the rest
- The same idea as text on screen, so it lands with the sound off
If your video opens with "Hey guys, welcome back," you already lost. Open on the problem or the payoff instead.
Hooks that work for a service business:
- "Most Gainesville [trade] businesses are invisible on Google. Here's why."
- "This is what a $400 job looks like, start to finish."
- "Your 5-star reviews aren't bringing you customers. Here's what's actually missing."
- "We pressure-washed this driveway in 20 minutes. Watch."
- "Three things every [trade] website gets wrong."
Steal those, swap in your trade, and you're already ahead of 90% of local businesses.
2. Film the work you're already doing
The biggest myth is that you need a "content day." You don't. You need your phone out while you work.
Every job you run is content:
- The before and after
- A 10-second clip of the actual work
- Your truck, your crew, your setup
- A customer saying one real sentence about the result
Pull your phone out two or three times on every job. That's it. By the end of the week you've got more than enough to post from. Don't film a separate "marketing video" — film the work.
Post 3 to 4 times a week. Consistency beats going viral. One video that blows up and then silence does nothing. Four decent videos a week, every week, is what builds a business.
3. Turn the views into booked jobs
Views don't pay you. Booked jobs do. Most local businesses skip this part and then wonder why content "doesn't work." Four things to set up once:
- A link in your bio that goes somewhere useful. Not your homepage. A page where they can call you or book in one tap.
- Missed-call text-back. When you miss a call because you're on a job, an automatic text fires back within a minute: "Sorry I missed you — what do you need a hand with?" You'd be shocked how many jobs you lose just by not answering once.
- A comment-to-DM autoresponder. Someone comments on your video, they get a DM with a link. (This page you're reading? That's exactly how you got here.)
- Your Google Business Profile, actually filled out. Photos, hours, services, and you replying to every review. When someone searches "[trade] near me," this is what decides whether they call you or the next guy.
4. Your first 7 days
- Day 1: Fix your Instagram bio and your link. Say what you do and who you serve.
- Day 2: Film two clips on your next job. Don't overthink it.
- Day 3: Post one, using a hook from Part 1.
- Day 4: Claim or update your Google Business Profile. Add 10 photos.
- Day 5: Reply to every Google review you've ever gotten.
- Day 6: Post again. Same simple formula.
- Day 7: Set up missed-call text-back (your phone carrier or a cheap tool can do it).
Do that and you're already running circles around your competition. Most of them will never set any of this up.
When you'd rather have it done for you
I'm Alex. I run Florida Focus out of Gainesville, and this is the exact system I set up for the businesses I work with — the content, the lead capture, all of it.
What you just read is two pieces of a bigger machine we call the Focus Engine: the Fuel (content) and the Conversion (lead capture). The other two pieces — the Foundation (a website built to book) and the Accelerator (paid ads) — are what we build and run for you.
Doing it yourself works. But if you'd rather have the whole thing built and run for you while you do the actual work, that's the point of what we do. If that's you, book a quick call and let's see if it's a fit. Either way, go use this.
